What is CARTOLINA?

It’s a half-hour immersion, in English and Italian, in Italian culture and life, through interviews, music, poems, recipes and comments.

For whom & why
Many people have a long distance love affair with Italy, and would like to know more about it; and Italian expatriates like to keep in touch with their home country.
CARTOLINA has brought Italy to its listeners since February 1999.
How
Sometimes local events in New Zealand connect with Italian culture and life, e.g. the staging of Italian operas, visiting artists, local people travelling in Italy. At other times international events are covered, from Italy and everywhere in the world: new books published about Italy, major events etc.

Style
It's simple, light and clear. Cartolina means "postcard", so the format is informal, friendly and concise.

Validity
CARTOLINA challenges listeners to become more informed and knowledgeable about Italy and its connections with other countries, especially New Zealand. CARTOLINA has undertaken a difficult role: promoting Italian culture in an accessible way. A lot of thought goes into each episode, to make it a programme of substance. Understanding and friendship among different cultures is the ultimate aim of this, as well as all programs on PLAINS FM.
